i don't know what else to say!
got a call from insurance company today in which they told me that my request for ivf is being denied. i asked *why* and they said that there was no documented case of infertility and there was no documented history of 6 (count them) 6 failed inseminations. mind you, we did not know we needed those things to be the case to get approved.
they said, talk to your doctor to determine plan of action. once we stop crying and fuming, we will do that.
this directly effects the harvesting of my eggs for freezing to use in the future. so at this point we don't know now if this will prove possible.
we are hoping that we will be able to build the kind of case that the insurance company wants when it comes to dakota. unfortunately, she has been through the ringer over the last several years and better meets their desired model of infertility - it breaks our hearts daily.
denied :(

I am so sorry.... That is OUTRAGEOUS!!!! I am enraged FOR you! Its totally wrong. And of course, homophoboic. Can you not make a case absed on advanced maternal age? Like here, in Ontario (canada), you can not get into an RE unless you have been TTC for a minimum of 1 year, but if you are over 40, you can get in in 6 mos. Is there an argument you can make based on your age?
I am sure you are feeling so dissapointed. I send big cross border hugs...
Oh no! I was also going to suggest making a case based on age. Your doc should be able to justify things and get around that 6 IUIs thing. Often they can submit other evidence .... SORRY. This is such crap. I worry about this a lot. We are considering switching to an HMO in the fall that *might* have IVF coverage, but it is only if you have a year of infertility (12 IUIs?) ... with access to sperm (if you're straight???). It makes me sick just thinking about the fight we'll have. And I am SO SORRY that you're facing this, and facing it unexpectedly.
I am so sorry and angry for you too. I'm not sure what to suggest as I don't understand your insurance stuff, but I send love. That's really fucking crap and I do hope you get it sorted ASAP!! jay xx
OMG, I can't believe this. We just had that conversation and it really sounded like things were going to work out. That just sucks. Fight the fight. I'm so, so sorry.
I am sorry that you have to deal with such crap. I hope your doctor can work around this somehow. I am thinking of you both and if you ever want to complain in person to me about it I think we both live in brooklyn, right? xo L.
Ugghhh-- I am so sorry to hear about this. I am hoping that your doc can help with this (sometimes the insurance people at the offices/clinics are wizards). Anyway, big love.
i'm so sorry!
my insurance won't offer any sort of infertility/artificial insemination services, so i completely understand how you're feeling.
Doesn't it make you wonder why you even have insurance? Most people rarely use theirs and then when they have something as serious as infertility to use it on the insurance companies look for ways to wiggle out.
As someone else mentioned some medical departments know how to word things to get it approved. Or can use a loop hole to get it approved also.
Wishing you the best!
I'm just getting caught up on your blog (I like to read back a bit when I start reading someone new so it takes me a bit). Anyway, I'm so sorry about the frackin insurance company - that is completely outrageous. Hopefully you'll be able to make the case.
